We have been busy growing vegetables. They have grown so well through the winter we now don't know what to do with them until someone suggested we sell them. Wow! that is an exciting idea. We got busy planning and designing some vegetable stands.
After we had finished our designs we made some 3D models ready to finalise our stand we will construct.

Solar Ovens

We have had a fun filled term learning all about the sun and the energy that comes from it.
How can we harness the energy from the sun to help us? This is a question our teachers asked us.
We have looked at solar energy.

We have made some solar ovens, hoping to cook pizza for us.
We have thought about absorbing the heat and reflecting the heat.

Sunlight at Waikato Museum

Tuesday 21st February Ruma Toutouwai went to see the Sunlight Exhibition at the Waikato Museum.  It was great.

We learnt....

  • photons come from the sun
  • the sun is made up of 2 gases - hydrogen and helium ( helium is the one that makes you voice go like a chipmunk)
  • Photons take 100,000 years to go from the sun's core to the surface.
  • Photons then only take 8 minutes to get to earth
  • we see photons as light
  • the sun can melt a diamond it is that hot!
  • the sun is a star
  • The sun makes UV light.  The UV beads changed colour in the light.
  • The UV beads help us to know when it is too hot to be outside without sun protection.
  • the sun is 150,000,000 km from the earth
  • We need the sun to survive
  • The sun gives us energy to be able to do things
  • the sun gives us weather
  • It controls the water cycle
  • It makes electricity when using solar panels
  • Animals and Human (all living things) need sun to live.

WOW! and we were only at the museum for two hours.

Check out our Suns in the classroom.

We are Responsible

Te Pahu Value - RESPONSIBLE

Over the last 3 weeks, we have been looking at how we can be responsible at school, home and out in the community.  We have put together a video.  It was so much fun and giggles to make.
